A note From Michelle...
Hello, my name is Michelle Harper. I have ridden horses nearly all of my life and have given riding lessons for 25 years. I have competed in barrel racing and other speed events, halter and western pleasure showing, cutting events, and even played polo for charity. I have also had experience in driving carts and wagons with single and team hitches.
In the early 80's, I started a non-profit organization here in Okeechobee known as the
Big Lake Trail Riders,Inc. and served as President for about 6 years. During this time, we had something going every weekend: Speed Shows, Western or English Equitation Shows, Trail Rides or Clinics. The clinics focused on nutrition, safety, hoof care, dentistry and even equine massage. The thing I enjoyed most was watching young people gain confidence with their animals and learn how to take better care of them.
In the mid 80's, I joined a group known as the Florida Cracker Trail Association . At that time its mission was to ride from coast to coast across Florida, in order to promote the newly designated "Cracker Trail". To this day it is dedicated to preserving Florida's cattle and horse heritage and conducting an annual cross state horseback ride. After 21 years of service to the Association, having served as President for 6 years and Trail Boss for two years, I retired from the Association in 2007.
I now enjoy spending time with my own two horse crazy girls operating the farm and serving as a Volunteer Leader in the 4-H Group, Bits and Spurs Club of Okeechobee. I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend time with my own two girls and 25 other super kids watching them become proficient with their horses and blossom into a group of future leaders of the industry, the community and our country.
Thank you for checking out our site and we look forward to having you as our guest for your next Birthday Party, Class Reunion or Trail Ride Adventure.
Sincerely,
Michelle Harper
